Profile of Mr. Rafiq Ahmed Khan

Mr. Rafiq Ahmed Khan was the Bangladesh Consul General in New York in two terms, first in 1996 and then in 2001-2004.

A career diplomat, Mr. Rafiq Ahmed Khan, joined Bangladesh Foreign Service in 1971 and actively participated in the liberation war. Before joining the service he obtained his Masters in International Relations from the Dhaka University. Later he obtained Diploma in International Politics, International Economic Relations and International Law from the Oxford University, UK.

During his long diplomatic career, Mr. Khan served Bangladesh Missions in London, Yangoon, Jakarta and New York as well as the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Dhaka in various capacities. He was a member of Bangladesh delegation to the United Nations and represented the country in many international conferences.

While serving as the Consul General of Bangladesh in New York, in 2002, Mr. Khan was promoted to the rank of Secretary/ A Grade Ambassador. In 2004, he was appointed as Bangladesh High Commissioner to Canada.

He is married to Juyena Khan and they have two daughters and one son.
