Consul General Md. Shamsul Haque is a career diplomat. He joined Bangladesh Foreign Service in 1988. Before joining as Bangladesh Consul General in New York in September 2007, Mr. Haque served as Bangladesh Consul General in Los Angeles and Director General in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Dhaka respectively. Mr. Haque also served as Minister and Deputy Chief of Mission in Bangladesh Embassy in Moscow, Russia. Besides, during his diplomatic career spanning over 21 years, Mr. Haque served in Bangladesh Missions in Abu Dhabi, Seoul, Singapore as well as in Bangladesh Foreign Ministry in Dhaka at various capacities at various times.
Mr. Haque represented Bangladesh in various international, regional and bilateral fora, including at the 54th United Nations General Assembly in New York, meetings on Conference of Child Rights in Katmandu, meetings on Conference on International Vaccine Institute in Seoul, World Intellectual Property Rights Conference in Manila, ITC/UNCTAD Seminar in Manila etc. Mr. Haque is presently associated with the Society of Foreign Consuls, the 85 years old Consular Corps in New York, as an elected Regional Vice President from South Asian and South West Asian Region.
Mr. Haque went to the Fletcher School of Law and Diplomacy in Boston, Massachusetts and received an MA in International Relations. He also went to Nanyang Business School, Nanyang Technological University in Singapore to receive an MBA degree. He also holds an MA in English Literature from Dhaka University in Bangladesh. Mr. Haque also received a diploma on Special Executive Management from MIT Sloan School of Management in Massachusetts. He also received various professional trainings in Bangladesh as well as in different countries.
Working with and for Bangladesh Community in the USA is not only a part of Mr. Haque's profession, but also a passion and an obsession. Within the Foreign Policy Framework and directives of the present government, he is pursuing Non Resident Bangladeshi (NRB) Diaspora Diplomacy under a theme called "Building, Branding and Bridging an NRB Community in the East Coast' and forge partnership with them in representing Bangladesh in a befitting manner, promoting our image and protecting our interest together.
Consul General Haque is happily married to Mrs. Arifa Sultana Haque and they have one daughter, Noor, and two sons, Shan and Shabab
