How to use the Mail-in Services

In case the applicant chooses to apply by mail, he/she must send a self addressed, postage paid envelop for return service. The applicants are advised to send pre-paid envelopes from USPS, UPS, DHL, FedEx etc. for efficient and secured service.

In case of using USPS (United States Postal Service, operated by the US government), the applicants are advised to go for mailing services which have confirmation tracking number or bar code. These include Express mail, Priority mail (with signature confirmation or delivery confirmation tracking number) or Certified mail services. The tracking number or bar code should be preserved for information on the status of delivery/receipt of the mail.

  • Express mails are received within one day and the cost of sending an envelope (weighing half pound (about 3 passports) is around US $ 16.25 each way.
  • Priority mails do not have any weight limitation and are received within 3-4 days. Priority mails with signature confirmation would cost around US $ 6.50 each way. Priority mail with delivery confirmation would cost US $ 5.10 each way.
  • Certified mails are received within 4-5 days and the cost of sending an envelope weighing half pound (about 3 passports) would be around US $ 6 each way.

For more information, please contact the nearest USPS office or browse its website.

Applicants may also choose the services from private postal operators like UPS, FedEx, DHL for sending and receiving mails. In all cases, the tracking number or bar code should be preserved carefully for reference in case of misplacement/delay in delivery or receipt.

If the return envelope does not reach the applicant within a week after the expected time, please send an email with a brief description at contact@bdcgny.org for further information on the matter.

The Consulate General does not take any responsiblity for any document lost or delayed in mail.
