Dual Nationality Overview |

US citizens of Bangladeshi origin (by birth) and their children may apply for a Dual Nationality Certificate. On receipt, the Consulate General, after necessary processing, forwards the application with supporting documents to the Ministry of Home Affairs in Dhaka for subsequent action. After issuance, the Ministry of Home Affairs sends the certificate(s) to the Consulate for delivery to the applicant(s). The Consulate informs the applicants when the certificates are received from Dhaka.
If the applicant temporarily resides in Bangladesh, he/she should submit the application directly to the Ministry of Home Affairs, Bangladesh Secretariat, Dhaka.

Applying for Dual Nationality |

A complete set of application for dual nationality certificate of Bangladesh consists of i) application form (pages 1-2), ii) Declaration of Assets (page-3), iii) Statement of Activities (page-4) and iv) Affidavit (page-5). Application set (all five pages) and all other required documents have to be submitted in three complete sets. Incomplete application may result in delay in the processing of the case.
Following documents need to be submitted in triplicate: |
- Completed Dual Nationality Application Form (page 1-2).
- Declaration of Assets (movable and immovable) in Bangladesh (page3). Additional pages may be used if required. If the applicant does not have any asset in his/her name, statement of parent’s assets must be provided. In case of application for children, Declaration of Assets should be that of their parents'.
- Statement of Activities in the past 5 years (education, profession, business etc.) (page-4)
- Affidavit affirming the truth of the information furnished in the application. This has to be signed before a Notary Public or the First Secretary /Consul of the Consulate General of Bangladesh in New York. In case of a child the Affidavit may be signed by father or mother on behalf of the child.
- Copy of foreign citizenship certificate (US Naturalization Certificate )
- Copy of foreign passport (for US passport, first two pages)
- Copy of first seven pages of Bangladesh passport.
- Copies of receipts of remittances to Bangladesh in the last 3 years.
- Four (4) recent passport size color photographs (with name of the applicant printed at the top of the back).
- Processing Fee of US $ 38 (thirty eight) in the form of a money order/bank draft/certified check drawn in favour of 'Bangladesh Consulate General in New York'. Personal checks and cash are not accepted.
- In case of children born to Bangladeshi parents in the United States, please submit birth certificate and copy of parents' previous Bangladeshi passports (1-7 pages) or their Dual Nationality Certificates.
Please note that three complete sets of application form and all relevant documents (as specified above) have to be submitted for issuance of dual nationality certifiacate. |
Dual Nationality Fees |

The present rate for application for issuance of dual nationality certificate is US$ 38.00 for each application. Fees must be paid in the form of money order / bank draft / certified check drawn in favor of the Consulate General of Bangladesh, New York. Personal checks and cash are not accepted. Please note that all fees are subject to change as per the directives of the Government of Bangladesh from time to time.
