Mail in Service (Attestation) Overview

Applications for attestation of documents, which have prior authentication by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Bangladesh or the US Department of State, are by mail by the Consulate General. However, on receipt of the application, the Consular Officer may ask for an interview at the Consulate.

For attestation of all other documents (which do not have prior authentication of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Bangladesh or the US Department of State) the applicant has to appear in person with Bangladesh passport to submit his/her application.

For applications by mail, the applicant must include a self-addressed, postage paid envelop from USPS, UPS, DHL, FedEx for efficient and secure return service.

Documents sent by mail, without a pre-paid self-addressed envelop, are not processed.

Documents, which do not have the prior authentication of either the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Bangladesh or the US Department of State.

Processing Time ( Mail-in Service)

An applications for attestation, received by mail, is processed within one working day. The processing time starts from the day the application is received by the Consulate and does not include the time taken by mail. However, it may take longer time in case of the following:

  • If reference needs to be made to competent authorities in Bangladesh.
  • If the application is received with incomplete information.
  • If fees sent are inadequate or paid in a manner not accepted by the Consulate General.
  • Or for any other deficiencies in the application.

Please make sure that you have provided your contact numbers in your application. The Consulate General may need to contact you for further clarification/information in respect of the your application. If the applicant cannot be reached in three consecutive days, the application may not be processed.

THE CONSULATE GENERAL IS NOT RESPONSIBLE FOR DOCUMENTS LOST OR DELAYED IN MAIL.
