Profile of Mr. Abul Kalam Azad

Mr. Abul Kalam Azad served as the Consul General of Bangladesh in New York for a brief period in 2000. Before joining the New York Consulate General, he was the Bangladesh Consul General in Jeddah where he had served for two years since July 1998.

Mr. Azad joined the Bangladesh Foreign Service in 1973 and served the Bangladesh Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Missions in Beijing, Hong Kong, Cairo and Bangkok in different capacities. In May 1993, he joined the Bangladesh Consulate General in Dubai as Consul General. In July 1996, he joined the Ministry of Foreign Affairs as Director General and served in that capacity until his appoitment as Consul General in Jeddah in July 1998.

Shortly after joining the New York Consulate General Mr. Azad died in October 2000 at the age of 54. He left behind his wife and three daughters.
